### dolfin-adjoint minimization with time step

I'm having trouble thinking of a way to set up a minimization problem with dolfin-adjoint. I'm using the time distributed controls example (http://www.dolfin-adjoint.org/en/latest/documentation/time-distributed-control/time-distributed-control.html) as a reference.

Rather than having a vector of data at each time step, I have data that represents a point in this domain (it's a 1D system) at each time step. I'm trying to minimize the difference between all of the data points and the associated points in the simulation by changing a coefficient (in my example, the diffusion coefficient).

I'm not sure how I would set up the J functional for a problem like this, if possible.
