Hey everyone,

I'm not quite sure whether this is the right place to ask my question but how does one end up with the given variational form in the following article?

I'm particularly interested in how one extends the "normal" variational form using Lagrange multipliers to make the solution unique. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything useful using google.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated
