Hi,

I upgraded to 2017.2 today and see that the VTK plotting back-end is gone.  This was useful for getting quick 3D plots when debugging and running interactive unit tests. Is there somewhere the reasons for taking it out are discussed?

Thanks for any comments.

It was a nightmare to maintain. And using third party visualisation tools such as Paraview is much preferred.

I don't know why the change was made, but you can get the same functionality in 2017.2 this way:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# ...

plot(u)
plt.show()

Thanks, this works for 2D, but not 3D.
4feb18: I spoke too soon: some useful 3D plotting is supported by the matplotlib back-end, using mplot3d.
