Is it possible to suppress the log message "Appending to an existing XDMF XML file" with log level set to warning? I write to my xdmf file over hundreds of time steps and my screen just fills with this message. I know I can set the log level to error to get rid of it, but ideally I wouldn't want to miss out on other (to me more meaningful) warnings.

Sadly not, because it leaves me with just a choice between "warning" and "error" as the log level. "Warning" keeps flooding me with those messages and "error" suppresses all other warnings that I'm still interested in.

You can wrap the XDMFFile.write_checkpoint call with dolfin.set_log_level(40) and then back to dolfin.set_log_level(30).

Sadly, there is no possibility to control log level "module-wise". Maybe it would be more appropriate to change this message level to INFO, but that is possible just in upcoming dolfin releases.
Perfect, thank you for the suggestion!
